Who are the Jinn Nation?

By Unknown - February 16, 2018

Jin (Arabic: جن Janna) literally means something that connotes "hidden" or "invisible". The Jinn were once said to occupy several places in the heavens and hear the news from God, after the sending of a prophet named Muhammad  S.A.W   they could no longer hear him because there was a line keeping the secret.

A cave called the Majlis al-Jin in Oman,
literally "The Gathering Place of the Jinn".

The origin of the "jin" formation of the letters 'jim' (ج) and 'nun' (ن) indicates a closed meaning, Shaykh al-Islam said: "He is called the jinn because of his closeness from the human view."

The word jinn by language (Arabic) is derived from the word ijtinan, which means istitar (hidden).

So the jinn according to the language means something hidden and subtle, while shaitan is the nature of every ungodly of the jinns and humans.

Basic Element
As to the origin of the genie, God explains, if the first man was created from the land, the jinn were created from a very hot fire, described in Al-Hijr and Ar-Rahman

27  And the jinn We created before, from piercing fire.
QS. Al Hijr (15) : 27

15  And created the jinn from a fusion of fire.
QS. Ar-Rahmaan (55) : 15

Ibn Abbas, Ikrimah, Mujahid and Adh-Dhahak said that what is meant by the word of God: "From the flame of fire, is from pure fire". What is meant by pure fire is not mixed with other elements, just as humans are created from various elements of the soil.

They also argue that the meaning of "very hot fire" (nar al-samum) or "flame" (nar) in the word of God above is "pure fire". Ibn Abbas once interpreted it as "fire", as quoted in Tafsir Ibn Kathir.

In another narration from Ibn Abbas: "From the embers of fire." This history is found in Tafsir Ibn Kathir. His argument from the hadith of Aisha's history, that the Muhammad S.A.W  said: "Angels are created from light, the jinn are created from the flame, and Adam is created from what is told to you."

Physical Form
The jinn are said to have horns, [*] small in size [*] in other stories are said to be small like flies [*] have wings. [*]

Horn :
Amr bin Abasah narrates that Rasulallah S.A.W  said, "Pray at dawn you. then hold yourself from the prayer (do not pray) until the sun rises so that (really) rises, because in fact he appears between the two horns of the devil. At that time, the disbelievers were bowing to him. After (the time) then pray, because the prayer is witnessed and attended (the angels) until the spear has no shadow (the sun is right in the middle). Then hold yourself out of prayer, for indeed it is when the infernal hell is ignited. Then when the shadow of the sun has appeared (the sun slips to the west) then pray, because the prayer is actually witnessed and attended (the angels) until you pray ashar. Then hold yourself from the prayer until the sun sets, for indeed he sinks between the two horns of the devil. At that time the disbelievers worshiped him. "
(Narrated by Muslim 832)

Concerning the understanding of these two horns of Satan according to Imam Nawawi the scholars differ, there is a meaning that when the human prayers fit at that time then the devil will follow with both horns and some who argue when the kafir sujud to the sun then the devil stood there to think it is he who is worshiped, there is also a figurative interpretation that the horn there means is the pride of the devil.
(Saheeh Muslim bi Syarh An Nawawi Juz IV / 124)

Small in Size :
In another hadith also mentioned that if recited bismillah, jinn will shrink by the fly (maybe this is the original size of jin). Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal in his musnad narrated from the father of Abu Al-Malih, a man named Osama bin Umari, he was ridden by Rasulallah S.A.W . Usamah said, "The Prophet's mounts are slipping, so I say: 'Tsa'isas-syaithaan (woe to Satan), that the Messenger S.A.W said," Do not say woe to devils, for with it he swelled up like a mountain. Then he will say, 'With all my strength I will bring him down!' But, let him say: 'Bismillah'. Because if you say such a thing, the demon shrinks to become like a fly. "
(Hadith narrated by Ahmad 5:95, Abu Dawud 4982, An-Nasa'i, Nawawi, Al-Hakim, Mardawaid and validated by Al-Albani)

Wings :
Imam adh-Dhahhak was once asked: "Does the devil have wings?" He replied: "How can they fly to heaven if they have no wings?"
(Hadith Narated by. Ibn Jarir)

According to the teachings of Islam, jinn can see humans, but otherwise humans can not see them in their original form. If any man can see the jinn, then the genie he sees is a genie that is incarnate in the form of a being that can be seen by the human eye.

Then no one can see the jinn, unless they change themselves (incarnate) in various forms. Only the Prophetc and the Messengers are able to see the original form.

"Verily the devil appeared before me to break my prayer. But God gave me power to face it. So I let it. Actually I want to tie it in a pole until you can watch it. But I remembered the words of my brother Sulayman 'Alaihissalam:' Ya Rabbi grant me a kingdom no one has after me '. So God cast him out in contempt. "
(Narrated by Al-Bukhari no 4808, Muslim No. 541 from Abu Hurairah)

One time the Prophet S.A.W was establishing prayers, then visited by demons. He held it and strangled it. He said: "Until my hands can feel his cold tongue sticking between my fingers: the thumb and the aftermath."
(HR Ahmad, 3 / 82-83 from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri).

There are several narrations that explain that they change themselves into various forms such as:
  • Being a poor man,
  • Became a Shaykh of Najd,
  • Shaped snakes,
  • Shaped mouse.
From Ibrahim from Ibn Mas'ud, he says: "Kill all the snakes except the white djinni which form like silver sticks". (Hadith Abu al-Hadith) Al Mudziri said this hadith munqothi 'because Ibrahim never met Ibn Mas'ud, Rasulullah S.A.W said: "The snakes are jinn who change the form and shape as the Children of Israel that changed shape into the likes of monkeys and pigs . "
(Narated by Thabrani with a valid sanad)

Ibn Abbas said: "One day a mouse came dragging a spun cloth then thrown in front of the Messenger S.A.W  who was sitting on a mat. Then the spun cloth that the rat brought was burned exactly as dirham money. Rasulullah S.A.W  then said: "When you sleep, turn off the lights, because syaithan often form a mouse"
(Hadith Narated by Abu Dawud with sanad shahih).

Jin can manifest like any human being except the figure of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W , they can transform their being into any animal. And can be the form of the Children of Adam as when the devil went to the polytheists in the form of Suraqah ibn Malik when they were about to go to Badr. They can vary in many forms, such as black dogs or black cats. Because the black color is more significant for the power of the genie and has the power of heat.

Abu Hurairah, may Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى be pleased with him, reported: The Messenger S.A.W said: "Whoever sees me in a dream, then he has actually seen me. Surely Satan can not incarnate like me."
(Saheeh Muslim No.4206)

Hadith narated by Abu Qatadah's Hadith, he says: The Messenger S.A.W said: "Whoever sees me in a dream, then he really sees something right."
(Saheeh Muslim No.4208)

Some animals were blessed to see jinn, such as donkeys  and dogs :

We narrated in Sunan Abu Dawud; from Jabir bin Abdullah radiyallahu 'anhu, he said, "The Messenger S.A.W: "When you hear the barking of dogs and the bray of donkeys at night, ask for protection (ta'awwudz) to Allah, because they see something you do not see . "
Shahih: Narrated by Ibn Abi Shyaibah no. 29797; Ahmad 3/306 and 355; Abd bin Humaid no. 1157-Muntakhab; al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad, no. 1234; Abu Dawud, Kitab al-Adab, Chapter ad-Dik wa al-Bahaim, 2/748, no. 5103; Abu Ya'la no. 2221 and 2327; Ibn Hibban no. 5517 and 5518; ath-Thabrani in ad-Du'a` no. 2008; al-Hakim 4/283; al-Baghawi no. 3060: from various paths, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin al-Harith, from Atha` bin Yasar, from Jabir to the hadith.

Getting to know Jin's Nature

Ancestor Jinn
Al-Hasan Al-Basri said: "The devil does not belong to the angel at all, the Devil is the origin of the jinn, as Adam was the origin of man." Then according to Asy-Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Nasir As-Sa'di added : "The Devil is abu al-jan (the father of the jinn)

50  We said to the angels, "Bow down to Adam." So they bowed down, except for Satan. He was of the jinn, and he defied the command of his Lord. Will you take him and his offspring as lords instead of Me, when they are an enemy to you? Evil is the exchange for the wrongdoers.
QS. Al Kahf (18) : 50

Al-Hasan Al-Basri.. He states: "The devil has never been an angel of twinkling at all, and he is indeed the origin of the jinn, as Adam is the origin of man." Narrated Ibn Jarir in the commentary of Al-Kahf verse 50, and uttered by Ibn Kathir in His interpretation.

The History of Jin's and Satan
When the first man was created, then God commanded the angels and Azazil to prostrate before Adam. Immediately Azazil refused to prostrate, then he was called by God with Satan's sentence. So this Devil is the "First Satan", because he was the first to rebel on God's command.

Syaithan in Arabic according to Ibn Jarir, is actually an adjective that can show any ungodly to God, whether from the genies, humans, animals, or anything far from good,  this opinion is reinforced in the Surah Al-An 'am:

112  Likewise, We have assigned for every prophet an enemy—human and jinn devils—inspiring one another with fancy words in order to deceive. But had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. So leave them to their fabrications.
QS. Al An'am (6) : 112

Assh-Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadi was once asked about the differences of jinn and demons, he replied: "The JInn covers the devil, but there are also the righteous. Satan was created to turn people away and mislead them. Then the righteous jinn, they hold fast to their religion, have mosques and pray only to the extent that they know their knowledge. It's just that the majority of them are stupid. "

Types and Classifications
Jinn consists of three groups, those with wings and flying in the air, a group of snakes and a nomad group.

Rasulallah S.A.W, said: "The genie consists of three groups; one group has wings and they fly in the air, one group is in the shape of a snake and one group is not sedentary and sedentary. "
Hadith Abu Tsa'labah radiyallohu anhu, narrated by Ath Thabrani (22 / 214-215) no. 573, Al Baihaqi in "Al Asma wa Ash Shifat" (827), Al Hakim (2/456) and validated by Shaykh Al Albani Rahimahullah in ta'liqnya against the Book "Al Misykaat" (4148) and Shaykh Us Al Wadi'i Rahimahullah in "Ash Shahiih Al Musnad Mimma Laisa Fii Ash Shahihain" (1213)

How to breed
The Jinn have sex of the same kind as men, women and men, they are able to multiply and breed. Then the Jin people are also believed to be dead before the doomsday comes, except the Devil whose age has been suspended.

Ibn'Abbas radhiyallahu 'anhuma narrates that the Prophet S.A.W  in one of his prayers, he recited: "I seek refuge with Your glory that no god is entitled to worship other than You. Essence that will not die. Jinn and man will die. "
(Narrated by Bukhari no 7383 and Muslim no. 2717)

A young Companion of Muhammad S.A.W story, who killed the invisible snake in his house. As mentioned in the hadith of Muslim history. 'Alamul Jinni wa asy-Syayathiin, Dr. Umar Sulaiman Al-Ashar.

Life: Religion, Food, and Habitat
Narrated jinn eat-food derived from human and animal feces, bones, juices of food and drink unnamed by God, they love the aroma of incense, and intoxicating drinks.

The story of Abu Hurairah, that he once brought a water bag made of leather for wudu 'and the prophet's lust, and he followed him with the water bag, he asked: "Who is this?". He replied; "I am Abu Hurairah". So he S.A.W said: "Find me some stones for me to use as a tool of washing and do not bring me bones and animal dung". Then I came with some stones with the tips of my shirt and placed it beside him S.A.W. Then I left. When he was done, I walked with him S.A.W to ask; "Why with bones and animal droppings?". He S.A.W replied: "Both of them include jinn food, and actually once came to me the messenger of the jinns from Nashibin, he was the best of jinn, then they asked me about the provisions, so I pleaded with Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى for them that they would not pass through the bones and excrement of animals, get it as food ".
(Hadith Narated by Al-Bukhari no 3571)

The story from Amir he said, "I asked Alqamah, Did Ibn Mas'ud witnessed with the Prophet the night eve?" The narrator said, 'Then Alqamah said,' I asked Ibn Mas'ud, then I said, Is one of you was present with the Prophet S.A.W on the night of the Jinn? He replied, No, but we had one night with the Messenger S.A.W, and we lost him so we searched him in the valleys and footprints to the mountains, so we said Jin took him away or killed him in secret- and we spent the night with an ugly night which the companions shared together through that night. In the morning, suddenly he came from the direction of Hira 'The narrator said, "We say, O Messenger of God, we have lost you, then seek you, then we did not get you until we spent the night on an ugly night that the companions shared together through the nights. He S.A.W replied, A dai from among the jinn came to me, so I went with him, then I read the Qur'an in front of them. The narrator said, 'Then he went with us to show them their footsteps and the footsteps of their fires, and they asked him for a supply, so he said, You get every bone the name of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى has mentioned (when slaughtered), which in your hands more into flesh and every animal waste is food for your riding animals. ' Then Rasulullah S.A.W said, So do not you go with both of them (that is, animal feces and bones), because they are your brother's food. "And have told me about him Ali bin Hujr as-Sa'di has told us Ismail bin Ibrahim from Dawud this sanad to his words, "And the traces of their fireplaces." Asy-Sya'bi said, "They asked for supplies to him, and they are from among the Jinn of al-Jazirah."
(Saheeh Muslim no 682)

Among them there are those who believe and some are infidels just like humans, based on Al-Quran surah al-Jin.

11  Some of us are righteous, but some of us are less than that; we follow divergent paths.

14  Among us are those who are submitting, and among us are the compromisers. As for those who have submitted—it is they who pursue rectitude.
QS. Al Jinn (72) : 11 & 14

There are also genie of Jinns who are atheists, worshiping the sun, even worshiping fellow Jinns, animism, dynamism, but there are also religious Majusi, Jewish, and Christian. It is like a man who has different beliefs and aqidah.

Prophet Muhammad S.A.W that when entering the mosque used to pray (which means): "I take refuge in Allah Almighty, His Glorious Face, and to His power that is without beginning, from the damned demons." The hadith narrator asks his teacher , "Is that the only thing he said?" Answered, "Yes." The Prophet S.A.W said, "When someone utters the prayer, Satan says," He has been given guard from my temptations throughout the day. "
(Abu Dawud of the hadeeth of Ibn 'Amr ra, saheeh hadeeth)

'Uthman ibn Abil' Ash came to the prophet S.A.W then complained, "O Messenger of Allah, the devil actually prevents me from my prayer and my reading, he confuses my reading." The Messenger S.A.W advised, "That is a demon named Khinzib, if you find that, then seek refuge in Allah and spit it toward the left three times." 'Uthman said, "I did that, then Allah removes the disturbance from me."
(Hadith Muslim history)

According to some of the evil hadiths belonging to the Jinn live in some places, the pagan genie groups like to live in a dirty place, and they also dwell in the mosque, or disturb humans in prayer.  Place of residence among them are:
WC (a place that is unclean and dirty), House, Cemetery,Markets,Near the camel and its cage, The Valley, Oceans,The desert, Holes on the ground, Place of sinners.Place between hot and shady, Places or objects that are considered sacred, Silent place [more...]

By the power of God, the Jin can not see the Angels, even though they are both supernatural beings. This is based on the story of the death of Solomon, when He was leading Jin's work. The Jinn do not know that Prophet Sulayman has died. His body fell down because his staff was vulnerable to eating by termites. [ King Solomon is the same with Prophet Sulayman ]

14  Then, when We decreed death for him, nothing indicated his death to them except an earthworm eating at his staff. Then, when he fell down, it became clear to the sprites that, had they known the unseen, they would not have remained in the demeaning torment
QS. Saba' (34) : 14

" This article answers a fundamental question
about the difference of ghost form in each region of the countries.
The fundamental question is: Why are ghosts in every place different in form? For example westerners are more familiar with Vampires, Africans know Voodoo, Southeast Asian people especially Indonesia know the ghosts' Pocong ", etc. This can be seen from the work of horror cinema in these countries.
The ghostly form of embodiment is not their original form. The power of human imagination in a region of countries greatly influences the manifestation of ghosts.
The frightening forms imagined by a person can affect the apparition of ghosts that some people can see. "
